Congratulations to Jennifer Croom, inaugural winner of the ABC series Portrait Artist of the Year!

Judged by three Australian art experts – Director of the National Portrait Gallery Bree Pickering, award-winning multidisciplinary artist Abdul Abdullah, and Associate Professor of Art History at the Australian National University Robert Wellington – Croom made it through the heats and finals to be crowned the winner.

Her major prize was the opportunity to paint a career-changing commission to hang at the National Portrait Gallery. On view now, Croom’s portrait of chef and restaurateur Kylie Kwong was completed in her Melbourne studio following a sitting at one of Kwong’s favourite Chinese restaurants.
